Welcome to the Helsinki X-ray Laboratory home page!
Welcome to the Materials Science course "Solid State Physics" (10 study credits), offered next time in the teaching periods III & IV, 2020.
Our group has strong tradition in x-ray spectroscopy and materials science. Our main focus is in x-ray imaging, spectroscopies, scattering, their combinations, and corresponding computational modeling.
Our main experimental synchrotron techniques are inelastic and elastic x-ray scattering, x-ray imaging, as well as x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopies and their related tools such as resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy, and high-energy resolution fluorescence-detected x-ray absorption spetroscopy. For example, the latter was originally discovered by our former group member Keijo Hämäläinen (currently rector of the University of Jyväskylä).
We are an integral part of the Finnish Synchrotron Radiation Users' Organization (FSRUO) as well as the University of Helsinki's Doctoral Programme in Materials Research and Nanosciences (MATRENA) and the Master's Programme in Materials Research (MATRES).
